Assurance of Peaceful Durga Puja Celebrations in East Khasi Hills

Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah of East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, has confirmed that the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations will proceed smoothly, following thorough inspections that found no pandals encroaching on public spaces. This assurance comes after a local pressure group raised concerns about potential disruptions to traffic and public areas due to the placement of pandals.

In her statement, Kurbah emphasized the collaborative efforts of magistrates and police to maintain order during the festivities. “India embodies a secular spirit, and it is crucial for us to respect all festivals,” she remarked, underscoring the importance of harmony during this celebratory period.

The district administration has been closely monitoring the situation and has advised puja committees to enhance security measures by installing CCTV cameras around the celebration areas. This initiative aims to ensure the safety and security of all participants and attendees during the festivities.

Despite earlier allegations regarding pandals obstructing public spaces, Kurbah confirmed that the inspections revealed no violations. The administration’s proactive approach aims to facilitate a peaceful and joyous celebration of Durga Puja in the region, fostering a spirit of unity and respect among diverse communities.
