Mysterious Death of Wild Elephant in Assam Raises Concerns Among Locals
A wild elephant was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Ballamjhora village, Gossaigaon, Assam, on Friday morning. Locals speculate that the tusker may have been swept away by rising floodwaters, which contributed to its demise. The animal was discovered trapped on an embankment by villagers, who promptly notified the authorities.
Forest department officials later arrived at the scene to recover the carcass for a post-mortem examination. This incident adds to the recent concerns over wildlife safety in the region.
In a related incident, the carcass of another wild male elephant was discovered at Shilphata No. 1, located on the Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border. This elephant is believed to have died overnight, and an examination revealed that its front left thigh was unusually swollen, suggesting a significant injury.
Officials from the forest department suspect that infighting within the herd may have led to the death of this second elephant, highlighting ongoing issues related to the welfare of wildlife in the area.
As authorities investigate these incidents, concerns grow over the safety of elephants and other wildlife amidst changing environmental conditions and potential conflicts within their habitats.
