Attempted Murder in Guwahati: Woman Stabbed by Former Partner, Assailant Arrested

Guwahati, Assam – In a disturbing incident late Friday night, a 21-year-old woman named Urmila Brahma was brutally attacked by her former partner, Bikas Deka, in an attempted murder. The assault, which left Urmila with serious injuries to her abdomen and neck, occurred around 9 PM while she was heading to the market.

Urmila is currently receiving treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), where her condition remains critical. The attack is believed to have stemmed from a troubled past relationship between Urmila and Bikas, a driver from Baihata Chariali. Tensions reportedly escalated after the couple’s breakup, with Bikas allegedly reacting violently to Urmila’s new relationship.

At the time of the incident, Urmila was living in a rented house owned by advocate S.N. Borpujari on Abahan Path in Hatigaon. Following the stabbing, Bikas reportedly fled and took refuge in the residence of Amal Borpujari on Bishnujyoti Road. The family was not home at the time, being out of Guwahati for personal reasons.

Acting swiftly, Guwahati police tracked down and arrested Bikas, recovering the knife used in the attack. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the violent act.
