Kokrajhar District Implements Ban on Illegal Lottery Operations
In a decisive effort to combat illegal lottery operations, both offline and online, Masanda M. Pertin, the District Magistrate of Kokrajhar, has formally announced a ban on such activities within the district. This directive is in line with a recent ruling by the Gauhati High Court, which responded to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the unauthorized lottery practices proliferating across Assam.
The High Court’s ruling stemmed from escalating concerns over unregulated lotteries, prompting orders to the State Government. Consequently, all District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to deny any requests for lottery operations and to take immediate action against those who violate this mandate.
Acting upon these directives from the Home and Political Department of the Government of Assam, District Magistrate Pertin has invoked the powers granted under Section 163 of the Assam Police Act to enforce this prohibition. The ban is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
“Violators of this order will face stringent legal repercussions under the relevant provisions of the law,” Pertin stated, underscoring the importance of compliance. He urged individuals and organizations to adhere strictly to the ban and avoid any involvement in illegal lottery activities.
This crackdown aims to protect the public’s interests and uphold the integrity of lawful gaming practices within the district. The District Magistrate’s office will continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring compliance with the order and safeguarding citizens from potential exploitation associated with illegal lotteries.
