Northeast Frontier Railway Introduces Diesel Joyrides for Peak Tourist Season in Darjeeling

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to enhance the travel experience for visitors in the scenic hills of Darjeeling by operating four special Diesel Joyrides under the iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) service. These joyrides will run daily from October 21 to December 5, 2024, coinciding with the peak tourist season when thousands of visitors flock to this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The introduction of these special services aims to accommodate the influx of local and international tourists looking to enjoy the stunning vistas and cultural richness of the region.

The Diesel special Joyrides will operate on a carefully planned schedule to maximize convenience for passengers. Train No. 02547 will depart from Darjeeling at 09:20 AM, arriving at Ghum by 10:05 AM. The return journey from Ghum will leave at 10:25 AM and reach Darjeeling at 10:55 AM. Other joyrides include Train No. 02548, departing at 11:25 AM, Train No. 02549 at 1:25 PM, and Train No. 02550 at 3:30 PM, each providing round-trip service to Ghum with similar timing structures.

Each Diesel Joyride will consist of three first-class chair car coaches, ensuring a comfortable travel experience. Seating arrangements feature two coaches with 30 seats each and one coach with 29 seats, catering to the anticipated demand during the busy season. Passengers are encouraged to book their seats early to secure their spots for this unique travel experience.
