Dead Elephant Discovered in Biswanath; Cause of Death Under Investigation

A solitary elephant was found dead on Saturday morning in the Goroimari area of Behali, Biswanath district, Assam, after being separated from its herd. Local residents and forest officials discovered the elephant’s body, but the exact cause of death remains undetermined.

Police were alerted by the forest department around 7 am regarding the elephant’s death. While initial reports suggest the possibility of an injury as the cause, authorities are exploring all angles related to the incident.

Local villagers reported that the elephant was part of a herd known to frequent the village, often damaging paddy fields in the process. They described the deceased elephant as having a visible injury on its limbs and mentioned that it was often the last to follow its herd.

Residents voiced concerns, alleging that the forest department had prior knowledge of the elephant’s injury yet failed to provide necessary medical assistance. They expressed frustration, holding the department responsible for the elephant’s untimely demise.

As of now, the forest department has not issued a statement regarding the incident, pending results from a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death. Authorities continue to investigate the matter, aiming to clarify the circumstances surrounding the elephant’s tragic end.
