Assam Vigilance Directorate Arrests Revenue Official in Bribery Case
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Assam has made a significant arrest in a bribery case involving Hirendra Choudhury, a Senior Assistant at the Kamalpur Revenue Circle in Kamrup District. The arrest follows a complaint alleging that Choudhury demanded a bribe of ₹3,000 from a complainant for processing land mutation work.
Unwilling to comply with the bribe demand, the complainant approached the Directorate to seek legal action against the public servant. In response, the DVAC set up a trap on October 28, 2024, at the office of the Circle Officer in Kamalpur.
Choudhury was caught red-handed after accepting ₹2,700 as a bribe from the complainant. The Directorate’s team recovered and seized the tainted money in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring transparency in the operation.
Following the collection of sufficient evidence, Hirendra Choudhury was arrested, and a case has been registered at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018).
Legal follow-up actions are currently underway, as the Directorate aims to address corruption within public services and uphold integrity in governance. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Assam’s authorities to combat bribery and corruption among government officials. Further updates on the case are expected as the investigation progresses.
