Road Connecting Mawlonghat to Bimola Junction Set to Reopen on November 4, Revamping Shillong’s Traffic Management
The long-closed road connecting Mawlonghat to Bimola junction will officially reopen on November 4, a significant development in Shillong’s traffic management strategy. The East Khasi Hills District administration has announced this reopening as part of comprehensive measures aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the bustling Iewduh/Barabazaar area.
Previously restricted under “No Entry” regulations for several years, the road will now permit vehicle access from 8 am to 4 pm daily. This initiative is accompanied by a broader restructuring of traffic across multiple key areas in the city.
Key changes include:
- Implementation of one-way traffic from Motphran to Mawlonghat and Punjabi Lane.
- Relocation of bus parking from Mawlonghat to the MUDA parking lot near Anjalee Cinema Hall.
- New routing for SPTS buses, directing them toward the Jeep Stand – District Council.
- Strict parking regulations along Boucher Road, allowing only single-side parking.
- A complete parking ban along the stretch from Mawlonghat to Bimola junction.
Additionally, the new traffic flow patterns will redirect buses at Grand Hotel junction via Boucher Road, instead of allowing them to continue to Police Bazaar. Light motor vehicles will still have access to both Motphran and Grand Hotel Junction at Bimola junction.
These changes are expected to streamline traffic movement and enhance the overall flow within one of Shillong’s busiest areas, promoting a more organized transportation system for residents and visitors alike.
