Guwahati Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Restaurants Over Severe Hygiene Violations
Guwahati, Assam — In an intensified drive to ensure food safety, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a series of late-night raids across the city, targeting restaurants notorious for poor hygiene standards. Led by Joint Commissioner Mrinal Bora, the recent inspections unveiled disturbing sanitary violations at multiple establishments, including the Barbie Hotel and Fast Food outlets on GS Road.
During the raid, GMC officials found food preparation areas in deplorable conditions, with rats and mice visibly consuming food directly in cooking spaces. The unsanitary conditions have raised public health concerns, prompting immediate action from the GMC. Following the inspection, two outlets of Barbie Hotel and Fast Food were temporarily shut down.
This raid is part of GMC’s broader initiative to crack down on unsafe food practices across Guwahati. Over the past week, multiple establishments have faced scrutiny for failing to maintain basic health standards. On October 24, officials raided several hotels in the Paltan Bazar area, responding to reports of unhygienic food handling. The inspection, which started around 12:30 a.m., revealed unclean kitchens and improper food storage practices in well-known spots like Dilkhush Punjabi Dhaba.
GMC’s enforcement actions signal a firm stance on food safety and hygiene, emphasizing the city’s commitment to protecting consumers from potential health risks. Authorities have announced that inspections will continue, with further actions anticipated against establishments that fail to comply with hygiene regulations.
