Tragic Drowning Incident During Kali Puja Rituals on Brahmaputra River

A young man lost his life in a tragic drowning incident while taking a ritual bath in the Brahmaputra River on Sunday, ahead of the immersion ceremony for the Goddess Kali idol. The incident occurred as three youths from Manipuri Basti participated in the traditional festivities by the river.

Witnesses reported that the young men entered the river for a holy dip, a customary practice during Kali Puja celebrations. While two of the youths managed to swim back to shore, the third, identified as Brijesh Mahaseth, was swept away by the river’s swift currents.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was promptly called to the scene and conducted a search operation. Tragically, they later recovered Brijesh’s body from the river.

The untimely death of the young man has cast a pall over the festivities, leaving family and friends in mourning. In light of this incident, authorities have urged the public to exercise caution around water bodies during such events, emphasizing the unpredictable and powerful nature of the Brahmaputra’s currents.
