Himanta Biswa Sarma Criticizes Jharkhand Government, Highlights BJP’s Vision for Prosperity

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the BJP’s co-incharge for Jharkhand, launched a scathing attack on the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), accusing the party of perpetuating poverty under Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s leadership. Sarma, speaking to the media, claimed that while the JMM had failed to develop the state, the BJP sees Jharkhand as a potential leader in prosperity due to its rich natural resources.

“We spent 4-5 months consulting with the people and studying successful governance models of BJP-led states before drafting our manifesto,” Sarma emphasized, adding that financial resources would not be an obstacle for the state’s growth.

The first phase of Jharkhand’s assembly elections, held on Wednesday, saw a robust voter turnout of 64.86% across 43 constituencies, surpassing the 63.9% turnout from the 2019 elections. The polling, despite threats and boycott calls, was marked by high enthusiasm, with diverse groups—including women, the elderly, and tribal communities—actively participating in the democratic process.

The BJP-led NDA is aiming to unseat the JMM-led government in the ongoing elections. Key candidates in the race include Chief Minister Hemant Soren, former CM Champai Soren, JMM leader Mahua Maji, and Congress leader Ajoy Kumar. The second phase of voting is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
