Train Cancellation Sparks Protests Among Army Aspirants in Guwahati

Guwahati witnessed a surge of protests at platform no. 1 of the main railway station as hundreds of Army aspirants expressed frustration over the sudden cancellation of a train bound for Silchar. The train was crucial for these students, who had traveled from across Assam to reach Silchar for an Army recruitment interview scheduled on November 15.

The cancellation left many of the hopefuls stranded, facing the possibility of missing their interviews, an essential step toward their aspiration of joining the Indian Army. As disappointment turned to anger, the crowd gathered at the station, demanding explanations and seeking alternative arrangements for travel.

The protests soon drew local police attention, with teams from Latasil, Panbazar, and Fansi Bazar stations arriving to control the situation. However, tensions escalated, leading to clashes between the police and the students. In the ensuing scuffle, several on both sides sustained injuries.

The tense standoff underscored the students’ distress, with many expressing concerns over their uncertain prospects of reaching Silchar on time. As the situation unfolded, railway and law enforcement officials worked to restore order and explore possible options to assist the stranded students.
