Jorhat Police Under Fire After Alleged Assault on Woman and Infant in Borigaon

A shocking incident in Borigaon, Jorhat, has raised serious questions about police conduct, as a woman and her two-month-old infant were allegedly assaulted by a team from the Bhogdoi Police Outpost during a house visit.

According to the victim, officers vandalized her property before the in-charge, Sub-Inspector Barnali Gohain, reportedly slapped her and kicked her in the stomach while she held her baby. The infant is said to have sustained head injuries during the assault.

The altercation allegedly began when the officers questioned the woman about her connection with a youth named Ankur Das. Sub-Inspector Gohain reportedly demanded that the woman report to the police outpost within an hour, threatening severe consequences for non-compliance.

Following the incident, the injured infant was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), where medical staff recommended a CT scan to evaluate the extent of the injuries.

An FIR has been filed against Sub-Inspector Gohain, and an investigation into the alleged misconduct is underway. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for accountability and justice for the victims. Authorities are under pressure to ensure a transparent and swift inquiry into the matter.
