Two Arrested with Cannabis Worth Rs 35 Lakh at Agartala Railway Station

In a joint operation conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on November 17, two individuals were arrested at Agartala Railway Station, Tripura, with 24 cartons of cannabis valued at over Rs 35 lakh.

The accused, identified as Bittu Kumar (27) from Begusarai, Bihar, and Ankul Kumar (23) from Lakhisarai, Bihar, were apprehended on Platform No. 1 while transporting 298 kg of dry cannabis on a pushcart.

The cannabis, packed into 282 packets within 24 cartons, was reportedly intended to be smuggled to Bihar via the Deoghar Express train.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Agartala GRP station. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects worked as bedroll boys on the Deoghar Express.

Authorities are conducting further inquiries to uncover additional individuals involved in the smuggling operation. The suspects will be presented before the court tomorrow, with police seeking custody for further interrogation. Additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
