Raijor Dal Sees Surge in Support as Prominent Leaders Join Ahead of Upcoming Elections
Raijor Dal, led by Akhil Gogoi, is witnessing a significant rise in support, with several prominent leaders and activists from various political backgrounds joining the party in a show of growing momentum. At a key event held at the Pragjyotish ITA Centre in Guwahati on November 17, notable figures including former BJP Bejera Mandal secretary, two district committees of AAP Assam, members of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), and individuals from Upper Assam joined the party.
Akhil Gogoi, the party’s leader, emphasized the core values of Raijor Dal and its vision for Assam’s political and economic transformation. He urged new members to familiarize themselves with the party’s constitution, which focuses on safeguarding Assam’s unique identity and local resources. Gogoi highlighted the disparity in the management of Assam’s resources, like coal and oil, under Article 371(A). He pointed out that while Nagaland benefits from these resources, Assam’s rights have been undermined by external control from entities like Coal India Limited and ONGC.
Looking towards the future, Gogoi outlined Raijor Dal’s goal of securing 20-25 legislative seats in the upcoming elections. If successful in forming the government, the party aims to focus on five key priorities:
1. Irrigation and Water Supply for Farmers: Raijor Dal promises to provide water to every farm in Assam within five years, alongside tax-free benefits for farmers. The party plans to impose higher taxes on non-farming landowners.
2. Fair Pricing for Agricultural Produce: Gogoi stressed the importance of fair pricing for crops, ensuring farmers receive reasonable compensation for their produce, with an example of offering 15 rupees per kilogram for tomatoes, while the market rate would be 20 rupees.
3. Local Control Over Markets: The party envisions empowering local communities to manage their markets, ensuring fair economic practices and promoting regional economic development.
4. Establishing Micro-Industries in Villages: To curb migration and provide employment, Raijor Dal plans to establish small-scale industries in villages, aiming to bring back youth who are currently working outside Assam, particularly in security jobs.
5. Tourism Development: Raijor Dal aims to position Assam as a major tourist destination, inspired by Goa’s economic success. Gogoi questioned why Assam residents should settle for a much lower standard of living compared to the prosperous region.
Gogoi made bold statements about the future of Assam’s politics, asserting that by 2026, people would reject divisive parties like the BJP and AIUDF, led by Badruddin Ajmal. He promised that Raijor Dal would unite Assam’s diverse communities and work towards a government that truly reflects the aspirations of its people.
