Baihata Chariali Man Sentenced to 20 Years Under POCSO Act
The Rangia Additional Sessions Judge and Special Court has sentenced Dinesh Das, a resident of Baihata Chariali, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Das to pay ₹3 lakh in compensation to the victim. The government has been directed to ensure that the compensation amount reaches the victim promptly.
The case dates back to 2020, when the incident was reported to the Baihata Chariali police station. The charges were brought based on a complaint filed by Child Protection Officer Mun Mun Sadhani. Following thorough investigations and judicial proceedings, Judge Mukul Chetiya delivered the landmark verdict.
Government lawyer Devjit Saikia stated that the court also imposed a fine on the convict, marking a decisive step toward justice in the case. This ruling underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rights and safety of children.
