Manipur CM Transfers Jiribam Hostage Killing Case to NIA, Criticizes Congress Policies

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has announced that the investigation into the killing of six hostages in Jiribam district has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He assured the public that the state government will remain vigilant and actively monitor the progress of the probe to ensure justice is served.

The Chief Minister made the statement during the oath-taking ceremony of D. Krishnakumar as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. Addressing the media, Biren expressed deep concern over the recent attack in Borobekra, a Jiribam district village housing a relief camp with 115 displaced residents and a police station.

According to Singh, armed groups equipped with sophisticated weapons, including rocket launchers, targeted the area in an attempt to overrun it. The swift response from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) minimized casualties, but the loss of innocent lives remains tragic. The Chief Minister commended the CRPF for their efforts and emphasized that the case of the six hostages would be closely followed.

Biren also took the opportunity to respond to a controversial post by former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on X (formerly Twitter). He blamed the Congress party for Manipur’s current crisis, accusing them of enabling the entry of “foreigners” through an agreement signed in 2008 during Chidambaram’s tenure. Singh reiterated his government’s commitment to preventing illegal foreign groups from operating on Indian soil.

The Chief Minister reassured the people of Manipur that operations against the perpetrators of the Borobekra attack are ongoing and that his administration will ensure accountability and security for all citizens.
