Three Poachers Arrested in Raimona National Park, Tiger Meat and Skin Seized
In a significant bust, the forest department apprehended three poachers on Friday at the Raimona National Park in Assam’s Gossaigaon. The arrested individuals, identified as Anam Basumatary (45), Bedalao Basumatary (40), and Kulu Koila (55), were allegedly involved in the illegal hunting of elephants, deer, tigers, and other wildlife species.
The arrests were made following a tip-off about poaching activities within the park. During the operation, the authorities seized 5 kilograms of tiger meat along with a tiger’s skin. The operation, led by Kachugaon Central Range Officer Paris Basumatary, was supported by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and carried out under the guidance of the forest department.
According to sources, the poachers were found drying the tiger meat near the Palla River, a remote area in the park. Based on covert intelligence, the forest team successfully intercepted the poachers, recovering the illicit wildlife products.
The three arrested poachers have been charged under wildlife protection laws and will be produced in court for further legal proceedings. The forest department has reiterated its commitment to curbing poaching activities in the region and protecting the rich biodiversity of Raimona National Park.
