Abhay Bora Seeks Police Protection After Receiving Death Threats for Rescuing Abused Dog in Guwahati

Abhay Bora, the individual who brought to light the abuse of a dog in Guwahati, has approached the police seeking protection after receiving multiple death threats. Bora led the rescue of a dog named ‘Prince’ last week with the help of the Dispur police and PurrPaws Foundation, following disturbing video evidence of the animal being beaten by its owner, Salim ul Islam. The footage, which went viral on social media, sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

In his letter to the police, Bora expressed serious concerns for his safety, detailing how he had been receiving threatening phone calls from unknown numbers since the rescue operation. He stated that the most alarming call came on November 22, 2024, when a man named Hrishikesh Sharma, claiming to be an active member of the AGP Political Party, threatened him over his involvement in rescuing the dog. Sharma allegedly warned Bora that he could be harmed at any time, intensifying his fears for his personal safety.

Bora, who has been involved in animal rescue efforts for years, noted that this was the first time he had encountered such hostility. He emphasized the gravity of the situation and requested immediate intervention from the authorities to ensure his protection.

The rescue of Prince has garnered significant attention, with the video of the dog’s abuse prompting widespread condemnation of Salim ul Islam’s actions. Bora’s call for protection highlights the risks faced by animal rights activists and rescue workers, as they continue to fight against cruelty and abuse.
