10th Falcon Festival 2024 Kicks Off in Dima Hasao’s Umrangso, Advocates Amur Falcon Protection
The 10th edition of the Falcon Festival in Dima Hasao’s Umrangso began with a vibrant three-day celebration aimed at promoting the conservation of the Amur falcon and raising awareness about the critical need to stop its hunting. The event, held at the scenic Umrongso Golf Course, also showcased the region’s breathtaking natural beauty, drawing attention to its ecological significance.
The festival featured electrifying cultural performances by prominent artists such as Abhijit Bhattacharya, Monali Thakur, and Md Faiz, alongside international bands that added a global flavor to the event. The diverse lineup highlighted the fusion of tradition and modernity, drawing widespread acclaim from attendees.
Amol Daplagajao, Chairman of the Umrongso Municipal Board, expressed pride in the festival’s growing popularity and detailed the special arrangements made for this year. “We expected a gathering of over 2 lakh tourists, similar to last year. To enhance the experience, we included traditional stalls and prioritized sustainability by making the event entirely plastic-free. Even the tea cups were crafted from eco-friendly paper, ensuring minimal environmental impact,” he shared.
The festival is not only a celebration of the region’s culture but also a platform for conservation advocacy. The Amur falcon, a migratory bird that makes a crucial stop in Dima Hasao during its journey, remains the centerpiece of the event’s message. Organizers hope that initiatives like the Falcon Festival will foster greater awareness about the importance of preserving biodiversity and encourage collective efforts to protect these magnificent birds.
As thousands of visitors immerse themselves in the festival’s lively atmosphere, the event continues to stand as a testament to the harmony between cultural celebration and environmental stewardship.
