Assam Police Busts Cattle Smuggling Ring, Seizes Nine Trucks and Arrests 18

In a late-night operation, Assam’s Kachua police successfully dismantled a cattle smuggling operation in Nagaon district, seizing nine Tata pickup trucks loaded with cattle and arresting 18 individuals involved.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the vehicles transporting approximately 108 cattle from Kachua through West Karbi Anglong to Meghalaya. The raid highlights the continuing challenge of curbing illegal cattle transportation despite the state’s stringent regulations, including a ban on beef.

The confiscated cattle have been relocated to a Gaushala in Nagaon for safekeeping, while the police have begun questioning the drivers of the seized vehicles to gather more details about the smuggling network. Authorities are probing how such operations persist despite enforcement efforts, with more information expected to emerge from the ongoing investigation.

This operation underscores Assam’s commitment to tackling illegal activities and ensuring compliance with state laws, with law enforcement agencies remaining vigilant against smuggling activities.
