SSA Teachers in Meghalaya Defer Protest, Seek Government Dialogue

Shillong: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has decided to temporarily shelve its planned protest, opting instead to continue negotiations with the state government. The decision comes amid ongoing concerns and unresolved issues faced by over 13,000 SSA teachers in the state.

Addressing reporters, MSSASA President Aristotle C. Rymbai confirmed the postponement of the protest. The association will now focus on dialogue with the government to address their demands, which include job security and other related concerns.

One of the significant demands raised by the MSSASA is the exemption of SSA teachers appointed before July 1, 2020, from the mandatory Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET). The association believes that such an exemption is justified given their years of service and experience.

Furthermore, the MSSASA has called for the establishment of a dedicated panel to oversee policies related to SSA teachers’ job security. This panel would play a crucial role in safeguarding the interests of these educators and ensuring their long-term stability.
