CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Invites Bhutanese PM to Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment Summit in 2025
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended a formal invitation to Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay to attend the Advantage Assam 2.0: Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025, scheduled for February 25 and 26 in Guwahati. The invitation was made during a business event hosted by the Government of Assam at the La Meridian hotel in Thimphu, coinciding with Bhutan’s 117th National Day on December 17.
During the event, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the deep-rooted cultural, historical, and economic ties between Assam and Bhutan. Recalling His Majesty’s visit to Assam last November, Sarma underscored its role in further strengthening bilateral relations and inspiring new areas of cooperation.
Highlighting the upcoming summit, Sarma announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event, which aims to drive investments and partnerships across South Asia. He expressed gratitude to PM Tobgay for his participation in the previous Advantage Assam summit and extended a formal invitation to join the 2025 edition and its accompanying cultural program.
CM Sarma outlined key areas for collaboration, focusing on hydropower, tourism, conservation, and agro-industries. He noted Assam’s interest in benefiting from Bhutan’s hydropower expertise to achieve renewable energy goals. Proposing a collaborative tourism initiative, he suggested linking Bhutan’s natural attractions with Assam’s iconic sites such as Kaziranga and Manas National Parks and Majuli. Joint efforts in wildlife tourism and conservation in the border regions were also discussed.
Further, the Chief Minister explored opportunities in ethanol production and agro-industries, encouraging Bhutanese businesses to leverage Assam’s growing industrial market. He emphasized sectors like food and beverages, poultry, minerals, and the use of Bhutanese agricultural products such as maize and bamboo to boost trade.
The event was attended by Bhutanese cabinet ministers, India’s Ambassador to Bhutan Sudhakar Dalela, and business delegates from both nations, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional cooperation and economic partnerships.
