Assam Deputy Speaker Accuses Congress of Responsibility in Protester’s Death

Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin on Saturday strongly criticized the Congress party, accusing them of causing the death of Mridul Islam, a heart patient, during a recent protest. Momin, a BJP leader and MLA from the Bokajan constituency, alleged that the Congress deliberately involved Islam in the demonstration despite knowing his medical condition.

“Mridul Islam’s death was caused by heart failure. He was a heart patient. My question to the Congress is why they took a person with known heart conditions to a protest? They don’t have enough public support, so they involved someone with health issues,” Momin said, holding the Congress responsible for Islam’s untimely demise.

Momin linked the Congress’ actions to their recent electoral losses, claiming the party was desperate after defeats in all five constituencies during last month’s by-polls. “Congress has lost its mind after crushing defeats. They are resorting to irresponsible and violent tactics instead of addressing issues constructively,” he asserted.

The Deputy Speaker also recalled past incidents of alleged Congress-instigated unrest, accusing the party of damaging public property during anti-CAA protests and attempting to set the Janata Bhawan ablaze. He argued that the Congress was driven by envy over the BJP’s achievements.

“Congress is jealous of the BJP. During their rule, Assam witnessed frequent conflicts between communities. Under BJP governance, peace prevails, and development is visible everywhere,” Momin said. He further remarked that when Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi visited Assam, she witnessed the advancements in tea gardens facilitated by the BJP.

Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi, Momin stated, “Congress is a party of sticks and spears, and Rahul Gandhi is perpetuating this legacy by causing chaos in Delhi. They are disconnected from the needs of the people and desperate to regain relevance.”

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Assam, with both the BJP and Congress exchanging barbs over recent protests and governance issues.
