Dispute Over Mawjambuin Cave Shivling in Mawsynram Temporarily Resolved with Scheduled Talks
A contentious dispute surrounding the Mawjambuin Cave Shivling in Mawsynram has been temporarily resolved, as Meghalaya officials have scheduled crucial discussions for January 3, 2025. The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner issued an official memo on December 23, inviting all stakeholders to participate in the upcoming meeting.
In response, the Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP), a key party involved in the dispute, has agreed to suspend all protest activities until the talks are concluded. KSP President Satya Ranjan Borah clarified that their intent was not to incite conflict but to ensure that their actions align with the principles of Article 51(A) of the Indian Constitution, which promotes respect for the country’s diverse culture and values.
Borah further emphasized that the KSP is committed to fostering national unity and socio-cultural harmony. The organization has requested the inclusion of local representatives, including those from the Darbar and Seng Khashi Hima Mawsynram, in the discussions. They also sought permission for a site visit to better understand the context of the cave and its significance.
The outcome of the January 3 meeting will determine the future course of action, with both parties hopeful that the talks will lead to a peaceful and constructive resolution.
