Three Poachers Detained for Sambar Deer Killing in Arunachal Pradesh Sanctuary

Three individuals were apprehended recently for illegally hunting a sambar deer within the Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary (DEMWS) in Arunachal Pradesh. Divisional Forest Officer Kenpi Ete confirmed that Borguli range forest officer CK Chowpoo led a successful operation based on a tip-off, resulting in the arrest of the culprits. Mibom Perme and Doping Taying from Borguli village were taken into custody on December 20, followed by the arrest of Toni Perme.

The poachers allegedly utilized a machine boat to access the sanctuary and employed a single-barrel gun to kill the animal. DFO Ete underscored the intent to pursue stringent legal action against the accused under the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and the Arms Act.

The department is actively encouraging local communities to actively participate in conservation efforts by promptly reporting any instances of wildlife crime. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing commitment by the sanctuary authorities to safeguarding the unique biodiversity within its boundaries.
