Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha Highlights Good Governance and Development at Gurugram Conference

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the transformative impact of good governance in the North East while speaking at the ‘Good Governance through Effective Implementation’ conference held in Gurugram, Haryana. Organized by SGT University in collaboration with Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, the event was also graced by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

In his address, Dr. Saha reiterated the Tripura government’s commitment to inclusive governance and highlighted the state’s progress toward rapid development. He acknowledged the pivotal role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies in advancing the holistic growth of the North East, referring to the region as “Ashtalakshi” with vast untapped potential.

Dr. Saha pointed to transformative initiatives such as the Act East Policy and the HIRA model, which prioritize highways, internet connectivity, railways, and airways, as critical drivers of development. He cited significant infrastructure advancements in Tripura, including six new national highways, a third-strongest internet gateway, and expanded rail connectivity, as examples of the state’s strides in modernizing infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also addressed the region’s improved security landscape, attributing the sharp decline in militancy and terrorism to the central government’s efforts. “Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the North East is now free from militancy, allowing us to focus on unprecedented growth and development,” Dr. Saha said.

He highlighted the Maitree Bridge as a key project that would further enhance connectivity in the region. However, its operation has faced delays due to evolving circumstances in neighboring Bangladesh. Despite this, Dr. Saha expressed optimism about its potential to boost regional trade and development.

Dr. Saha also spoke about the establishment of Tripura’s Good Governance Department, aimed at ensuring the efficient operation of all state departments. He took pride in Tripura hosting the North Eastern Council session for the first time, which he said underscores the growing recognition of the region’s importance on the national stage.

The Chief Minister concluded by highlighting the vast tourism potential of the North East and Tripura in particular, stating that a peaceful environment and effective governance are central to unlocking the region’s opportunities. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the benefits of good governance reach every citizen.

Dr. Saha’s remarks resonated with the broader vision of the central government, which continues to prioritize the North East as a key contributor to India’s growth and progress.
