Elephant dies after being hit by a train in Koliyabar…

The wild elephant died tragically when it was hit by a train at night in The Dal pond near Bamuni in Koliyabar. The incident took place on Friday night when a herd of elephants coming out in search of food was crossing the railway line. A 6-year-old female elephant was killed when it was hit by a Guwahati-Shilghat passenger train.

A herd of about 50 elephants came out to the area around 10pm in search of food. The elephant was killed on the spot when it was hit by a speeding passenger train while crossing the railway line by a herd of elephants coming out of the Bagch reserve forest.

The elephant was hit by a train about 50 metres away. Forest department personnel have already reached the spot and arranged for the cremation of the deceased elephant. Meanwhile the location of the herd of about 50 elephants is far from the spot.
