Assam CM Sarma Felicitates Lovlina Borgohain in Guwahati

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma honoured gold winner in the World Boxing Championship Lovlina Borgohain on Thursday in Guwahati.

Borgohain left for Assam earlier today after winning the gold medal at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She was greeted at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport with flowers and gamosas.

The Assam boxer was honoured at Janata Bhawan during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three companies to develop high-performance sports training and rehabilitation centres in two cities within the state.

Taking to twitter, Assam CM wrote, “Lovlina has taken Assam and Indian sports to a new zenith. I had the great privilege to felicitate her for the stunning performance in the Boxing World Championship. Thank you @LovlinaBorgohai for encouraging so many of us and wishing you many more medals in the coming years.”

The Assam government awarded a reward for champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain yesterday in the amount of Rs. 50 lakhs.

This announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Assam Assembly.

Lovlina Borgohain, who won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, made the news after winning her first gold medal at the World Championships on March 26.

The Assam boxer defeated two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Caitlin Parker of Australia with a split 5-2 verdict in the 75kg final at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship in New Delhi.

With this victory, Lovlina Borgohain has given India a total of four gold medals at the current World Boxing Championship.
