2 Minor Siblings Drown In Lake In Assam’s Mayong

Guwahati: Two minor siblings were playing nearby when they slipped into a lake and drowned in Morigaon district of Assam on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place at Patekibari area at Mayong.

As per reports, the siblings fell into Digholi Beel while they were playing with each other and unfortunately drowned. 

The deceased minors have been identified as Jahidul Islam (6) and Farida Sultana (3). 

Reportedly, the locals spotted their remains after a passerby observed them and alerted others.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended upon the villagers as it was the month of Ramzan, one of the most sacred times for the Islamic community. 

Later, the local police arrived at the scene and asked that the bodies be recovered for a post-mortem, but the family members refused since, in their religion, an autopsy on a deceased person is forbidden during the holy month of Ramzan.
