Assam: Lightning Strike Kills 5 Livestock in Majuli

Guwahati: In yet another tragic incident, at least five livestock died while several others were injured due to lightning strikes in Majuli district of Assam.

The incident took place at around 4 pm in Bardowa Luit Chapari of the district on Sunday.

As per reports, the lightning struck the animals as they were grazing in a wide-open area. Five animals were instantly killed by the lightning’s intensity.

Upon hearing the commotion, the locals rushed to the spot and immediately alerted the authorities. The injured animals were rushed immediately to the veterinary clinic for treatment, where they are currently being treated by the doctor.

The incident grieved the livestock owners because they were deprived of their livelihood. They relied on the animals for many of their daily requirements.

Speaking to the media, one of the locals said, “It was a horrifying experience. The lightning was so intense that it severely injured many of them on spot. We tried to save as many animals as we could, but it was too late for some of them.”

The local officials have also expressed their condolences and given the people their word that they will help the affected families in any way they can.

They have also asked people to exercise caution during thunderstorms and adopt the appropriate safety measures in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
