Assam man Arrested with cannabis in Tripura

Guwahati: One person hailing from Assam has been arrested by Tripura Police along with cannabis on Thursday.

Based on specific input, the police of Baijalbari outpost conducted a search operation at Baijalbari on the Khowai-Agartala national highway. 

During the operation, a good laden small truck bearing number AS-01FC 7405 was intercepted by the police officials.

Upon searching, a total of 142 kg of dry cannabis was seized by the officials.

Moreover, the driver of the truck has been arrested.

The arrestee identified as Akhirul Islam, resident of the Bongaigaon district of Assam.

The massive seizure is believed to be worth one lakh rupees in the international markets.

Currently, the vehicle is under police custody.

Meanwhile, a case under the NDPS section has been registered against Islam.

Further investigation underway.
