Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister and current Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has a bogus Instagram account that has been reported for soliciting donations from users.
According to allegations, the ‘OfficeofSarbananda Sonowal’ Instagram account has been going about requesting money from users via direct messaging.
This was reported by Twitter user named Homen Saikia who shared screenshots of the message the false account sent to him.
The screenshots show that the fictitious account requested a transfer of Rs 6,500 immediately. Also, the account stated that it will repay the money in two hours.
Following the incident, Homen Saikia sharing the screenshots on Twitter wrote, “An Instagram account naming OfficeofSarbananda Sonowal is doing this. @assampolice take action. @sarbanandsonwal @gpsinghips.”
Meanwhile, Assam director general of police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh replied on Twitter, asking the crime investigation department (CID) of the Assam Police to look into the matter.
