TET no longer required for graduate & PG teachers in Assam
Guwahati: The Assam Government informed the Gauhati High Court on Thursday that graduate and postgraduate teachers are not obliged to take the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).
The state government informed the high court in an affidavit that it will not hold the exam for graduate and postgraduate teachers in response to a writ case opposing the hiring of teachers without a TET examination.
Notably, Kashmiri Das and 100 other candidates filed a writ action at the Gauhati High Court protesting the hiring without a TET exam. They stated in the petition that there are 3,000 TET candidates compared to 7,000 advertising for teachers.
The petitioner demanded that the upcoming TET exam be held in order to wrap up the hiring process.
The government was required to submit an affidavit informing the high court that it would not be conducting the TET exam when the petition was being heard by the court.
The state government had previously said on April 5 that the Middle English Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) would no longer be held starting this year.
The education department of the state notified the Gauhati High Court that the state will no longer hold the M.E. TET examination.
