AIUDF MLA Contests Gauhati HC’s Decision in SC during Today’s Hearing
Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya has petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the Gauhati High Court’s decision in a case brought against him for allegedly falsifying documents pertaining to his educational background in order to win the Assam Assembly Elections in 2021. The petition will be heard by the top court on Tuesday.
The petition will be heard today by a bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Aniruddha Bose, according to sources.
AIUDF General Secretary and Assam MLA from the Sonai constituency is Karim Uddin Barbhuiya.
Aminul Haque Laskar, a well-known BJP leader and former Deputy Speaker, allegedly levelled significant accusations against Barbhuiya, accusing him of taking part in a number of fraud instances, including fabricating his educational credentials.
On May 13, Laskar spoke at a press conference where he allegedly provided proof that the AIUDF MLA had fabricated his educational credentials.
According to the documentation he provided about his educational background, Barbhuiya has connections to esteemed Chaudhury Charan Singh University, Meerut, alumni. Later, the university claimed that no student with the name Karim Uddin Barabhuiya had ever been registered in their institutions in answer to a Right to Information (RTI) request.
Laskar disclosed that the MLA had produced a forged diploma purporting to show that he had graduated from the GC College, although the institution had also rejected his enrollment.
Records show that Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, an AIUDF MLA, completed his High School Leaving Certification (HSLC) at a school where he earned a third-place grade.
