Bengal Police Exhume Faizan Ahmed’s Body in IIT Kharagpur Death Case

Guwahati: Faizan Ahmed, a student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur who was found dead in the college’s hotel on Tuesday morning, had his body unearthed from the burial ground in Dibrugarh of Assam by a team from the West Bengal Police.

An order for the exhumation of Faizan’s body was passed by the Calcutta High Court in order to conduct a second post-mortem at the Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta, stating it was necessary to determine if he died by suicide or not. Bitul Chetia, Dibrugarh additional SP (headquarters), on Monday said, “Two members of the investigating team from the Kharagpur Town police station came to my office today. They then left to obtain the permission of the Dibrugarh district and sessions court for the exhumation. It will be done by a forensics team.”

Faizan was a third-year mechanical engineering student at IIT Kharagpur, it should be noted. On October 14, he was found partially melted in a dorm room at IIT Kharagpur.

Faizan was buried at the Amolapatty Kabarstan (burial ground) in the town of Dibrugarh. He was an Assamese from Tinsukia.

The student’s family alleged he was killed, but the college administration stated the student committed suicide. In the Calcutta High Court, Faizan’s parents filed a writ suit, claiming that their son had been murdered.
