Assam: Dhubri SI, Ex-Home Guard Arrested For Taking Bribe

Guwahati: A Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Assam police and a former Home Guard were both taken into custody by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption on bribery-related accusations on Sunday night in Assam’s Dhubri district.


Rahizuddin Ahmed, the SI who was apprehended, worked in Dhubri’s Bilasipara PS. On the other side, Sonaruddin Sheikh has been identified as the former Home Guard.

The two were allegedly discovered collecting a bribe in a set-up trap while being caught red-handed, according to the vigilance cell. Both individuals were detained for requesting and receiving payment in exchange for sending a case diary to court.
Taking to Twitter, the office of anti-corruption cell wrote, “Last night @DIR_VAC_ASSAM laid a trap in Bilasipara PS, Dhubri. Sub Inspector Rahizuddin Ahmed & Ex HG Sonaruddin Sheik have been apprehended for demanding & accepting bribe for sending case diary to court.”


In the Kamrup area of Assam, a Lat Mandal was recently detained on corruption charges. Utpal Kemprai, who works at the Hajo Revenuce Circle office in the Kamrup region, has been identified as the arrested Lat Mandal.

Kemprai was arrested while taking the bribe money that the complaint had sought in order to execute the land transfer.
