Guwahati: A two-day workshop on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Assam was inaugurated by Assam’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on June 15 at AASC in Khanapara.
When commenting on the most recent rankings of universities, Himanta Biswa Sarma noted that certain institutions had done well while others had not met expectations. As a result, the chief minister emphasised that the universities in Assam are among the top 100 rankings.
“We need to see that 50 per cent of our universities are within the 100 ranks because gradually Assam is becoming the academic centre hub for the northeast but would like to see it as the hub of eastern India…we have long along spoken about northeast but northeast again is a sub-national identity”.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2023 had previously released on June 5, 2023 by Minister of State for Education and Foreign Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.
The workshop has been initiated under the able initiative of Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.
Addressing a gathering CM Sarma said, “Today all our universities will give a presentation followed by a presentation by the autonomous colleges.”
The CM further stated that because all vice chancellors are devoted to the cause of adopting NEP 2020 in the framework for higher education, the Assam government is eager to introduce and execute NEP 2020 in both letter and spirit.
However, a specific agenda such as signing up for the entrance exam, which will begin next year, has not yet been addressed.
The chief minister stated that the four-year degree programme still appears odd to them since they are unable to distinguish between the previous pattern and the current one in response to concerns raised by students and the Gurdian community on NEP 2020. “Every university should come up with a brochure on NEP 2020 in a FAQ mode so that the NEP is demystified,” added CM Sarma.
