Tripura CM Announces Rs 100 crore Package for Surrendered NLFT Militants as Part of Peace Efforts

Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha, unveiled a significant development in the state’s peace-building efforts with the announcement of a Rs 100 crore package sanctioned by the central government for surrendered militants of the Nationalist Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

The NLFT, a banned group notorious for operating from hideouts in the hilly regions of Bangladesh, has long been a concern for security forces in the region.

The newly allocated package forms part of the Special Economic Development Package for Tripura’s indigenous people, aimed at facilitating the reintegration of former NLFT activists into mainstream society after renouncing violence.

Chief Minister Saha disclosed this pivotal initiative during a public gathering in Gabordi, West Tripura district, where he was actively campaigning for Lok Sabha candidate Biplab Kumar Deb.

In his address, Saha lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his adept problem-solving skills, attributing the successful resolution of various issues in the North East to Modi’s leadership.Saha highlighted the signing of 12 accords by Modi since 2014, specifically mentioning the recent agreement with the Tipra Motha Party, a new addition to the ruling coalition, as well as the resolution of the longstanding Bru issue. These developments, he emphasized, underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
