Special Polling Stations Set Up in Manipur Amid Ethnic Violence
In response to recent ethnic violence in Manipur, authorities are establishing 29 special polling stations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to accommodate approximately 5,000 displaced individuals currently residing in camps.
Polling officials, acting on instructions from the central government, are implementing these arrangements to ensure that all displaced individuals have the opportunity to cast their votes. Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Kiran Kumar confirmed that some of these special polling stations will be set up in relief camps, aiming to facilitate voting for those affected by the violence. Kumar also noted a relative return to peace in the Northeast state following the violent clashes.
To ensure the security of these special polling stations, security measures have been heightened, with vulnerable polling stations to be overseen by the Central Armed Police Force.
As the state’s circumstances evolve, the number of special polling stations is expected to increase, with all activities closely monitored under strict surveillance.
