Voting Underway in Manipur Amidst Tight Security After IED Explosion

Voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Manipur commenced on April 26 at 7 am under tight security measures, just 48 hours after an IED explosion rocked the state.

The Outer Manipur seat witnesses a competitive race between candidates including Naga People’s Front’s (NPF) K Timothy Zimik, Congress’s Alfred K Arthur, and independent candidates Alyson Abonmei and S Kho John.

With the 15 Assembly segments of Outer Manipur PC already voting on April 19, along with the 32 Assembly segments of Inner Manipur PC, polling is now underway at 848 polling stations across 13 Assembly segments in eight districts of Outer Manipur PC.

The districts include Ukhrul, Kamjong, Teng-noupal, Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Jiribam, and Pherzawl, where voters are exercising their democratic rights from 7 am to 4 pm.

Despite the recent security concerns, senior citizens and specially-abled voters are showing up at polling booths with the assistance of volunteers to cast their votes, ensuring active participation in the electoral process.
