Notice Issued to Non-Mizo Beef Sellers in Mizoram
The Mizoram Bawngsa Zuar Association, known as the Beef Seller Association of Mizoram, has issued a notice to all non-Mizo beef sellers in the state operating without authorization, demanding an immediate halt to their business activities.
H. Lalhmingthanga, president of the Mizo Bawngsa Zuar Association, emphasized that beef selling has been a traditional practice spanning generations in Mizoram.
However, recently, non-Mizo individuals or outsiders have illegally entered the business in many localities.
Lalhmingthanga highlighted that these outsiders, predominantly Muslims and individuals from Bihar, have entered Mizoram with an Inner Line Permit (ILP) intended only for working at construction sites.
Therefore, their involvement in the beef selling business is unauthorized under the permit they hold.
Additionally, Lalhmingthanga pointed out that many local Mizos are collaborating with outsiders in this illegitimate business, sometimes even lending their names for business proprietorship.
Furthermore, the sale of beef on Sundays, a sacred day of worship in the state, has been observed in various localities, further exacerbating the issue.
The Association expressed concerns that this unauthorized business could lead to economic assimilation similar to what neighboring states have experienced. They urged all local Mizos collaborating with outsiders to refrain from such associations for the long-term economic safety of the state.
The Association set a deadline of May 13, 2024, for all non-Mizo individuals involved in beef-selling to cease their operations. They cautioned that any adverse actions faced by these individuals would not be the responsibility of the Association.
Additionally, they called upon the public and all local council and Young Mizo Association branches to support their decision.
