Alpine Sporting Club Emerges Victorious in SICA Women’s Club Tournament 2024

GANGTOK, SIKKIM – The fervor of cricket reached new heights as the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) concluded the third edition of the SICA Women’s Club Tournament 2024 on May 28, witnessing Alpine Sporting Club seize their maiden championship title in a gripping showdown against Aakraman Sporting Club.

In a testament to their determination and skill, Alpine Sporting Club clinched the coveted trophy, marking a historic triumph in their journey. Despite a valiant effort, Aakraman Sporting Club faced defeat in the final, settling for runner-up honors after reaching the pinnacle of the tournament for the third consecutive year.

The tournament, which kicked off on April 9, witnessed a remarkable surge in participation, with 13 formidable teams vying for supremacy compared to the previous edition’s eight. Over 200 talented women cricketers graced the field, showcasing their prowess and passion, thereby elevating the tournament’s stature and success. SICA lauded the seamless organization of the event and the heightened level of competition it fostered.

Individual brilliance shone through as accolades were bestowed upon exceptional performers. Samayita Roy Prodhan, with her stellar contributions, earned recognition as the Player of the Final, Highest Run Scorer, and Player of the Tournament, while Rebika Chettri’s bowling prowess earned her the title of Highest Wicket Taker.

The closing ceremony, attended by esteemed dignitaries including Chief Guest Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC), SICA President, and Executive Members, provided an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of the game and honor the players and organizers for their unwavering commitment to nurturing women’s cricket in Sikkim.
