Morigaon District Imposes June 20 Deadline for Jal Jeevan Abhiyan Water Supply Projects
In a bid to expedite essential infrastructure projects, District Commissioner Debasish Sharma of Morigaon has issued a stern ultimatum to contractors involved in water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan. Setting a stringent deadline of June 20, Sharma warned of severe repercussions for contractors failing to meet this cutoff, including project cancellation and punitive measures.
During a convened meeting at the District Commissioner’s office, Sharma unequivocally stressed the paramount significance of adhering to project timelines. He rebuked tardy contractors for their past failures in meeting deadlines, holding them accountable for the resultant societal adversities, particularly concerning access to potable water. Sharma adamantly asserted that no individual or entity possesses the prerogative to deprive communities of this fundamental necessity.
Expressing disdain for excuses citing influential connections, Sharma pledged resolute action against such disingenuous pretexts. He directed Executive Engineer Sarat Bora to furnish a comprehensive report delineating non-compliant contractors, slated for submission to the Assam Chief Minister for further redressal.
Additionally, Sharma mandated legal recourse against any parties impeding water supply projects due to land or other disputes. Collaborating with Additional District Commissioner Dr. Sangeeta Borthakur, Sharma clarified that the impending monsoon season shall not serve as a plausible justification for project delays, reiterating the imperative of adhering to the designated timelines stipulated since October.
Shah Mainuddin Dewan, Executive Engineer overseeing the Dhing division, apprised attendees of pertinent on-ground challenges encountered during project execution. Notably, the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan targets the provision of 2,13,997 tap water connections within the Morigaon district, encompassing the Dhing division. Presently, 1,43,572 connections have been successfully established, leaving 70,425 connections pending.
The convened assembly, comprising officials from the Public Health Technical Department and various contracting entities, served as a clarion call for expediting project completion to ensure unfettered access to critical amenities for the denizens of Morigaon.
