Tripura Imposes Ban on New Three-Wheeler Registrations in Agartala to Alleviate Traffic Congestion

Agartala, Tripura: In a significant effort to ease traffic congestion in Agartala, the Tripura government has announced a ban on the registration of new three-wheeler passenger and goods vehicles within the city limits, effective from July 10. This initiative aims to promote sustainable urban mobility and improve the overall traffic flow in the state’s capital.

The state Transport Department issued a detailed order specifying that the restriction applies to all new registrations of e-rickshaws, e-carts, e-autos, petrol and diesel autos, CNG autos, and vehicles powered by bio-fuels such as methanol and ethanol.

“The objective of this notification is to manage traffic congestion and ensure public safety and convenience. By banning the registration of these passenger and goods vehicles, we aim to promote alternative transportation methods in the greater public interest,” the order stated.

The ban encompasses the territorial limits of the Agartala Municipal Corporation area in West Tripura district. The Transport Commissioner and the District Transport Officer (DTO) of West Tripura have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new regulations.

“The Transport Department, Government of Tripura, will periodically review the impact of this restriction on urban mobility and retains the right to amend this notification as needed,” the order added.

This decision is part of a broader strategy to enhance urban infrastructure and transportation, ensuring a smoother, safer, and more efficient transit system for Agartala’s residents.
