Ferry Services Between Jorhat and Majuli Resume Following Brahmaputra’s Receding Water Levels
Ferry services between Jorhat and Majuli have been reinstated on July 5 after a temporary suspension due to the heightened water levels of the Brahmaputra River. The suspension, which lasted for six days, caused inconvenience to numerous passengers who were left stranded in Jorhat and Majuli. The decision to suspend services was necessitated by the river’s water levels at Nimatighat reaching levels not observed since 1991.
With the Brahmaputra’s water levels now subsiding, authorities have reopened the ferry route, offering much-needed relief to local residents and travelers alike.
The resumption of ferry services has resulted in a notable surge in passenger traffic at Nimati Kamalabari Ghat. Travelers have expressed appreciation for the swift action taken to restore operations promptly.
Despite the reopening, the Inland Water Transport Department has implemented specific safety protocols and guidelines. Currently, ferry services to Aphalamukh Ghat remain suspended, with operations focused exclusively on the Kamalabari Ghat route.
The reinstatement of ferry services signifies a crucial step towards normalizing transportation links between Jorhat and Majuli, ensuring essential connectivity for local communities and facilitating travel across the Brahmaputra River.
