Congress Sets Agenda for Parliament Session, Highlights Governance Failures and National Security

New Delhi, July 21, 2024 — The Indian National Congress has outlined its priorities for the upcoming Parliament session, with a focus on governance failures and national security concerns. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced that Gaurav Gogoi, representing the party, presented these key issues during an all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday.

Key among the Congress’s agenda are alleged scams in national-level examinations, including NEET and NET, as well as controversies surrounding the UPSC. The party plans to address the deteriorating state of railway safety and the contentious implementation of the Agniveer scheme.

National security remains a top priority, with the Congress poised to discuss the ongoing situation in Manipur and Jammu, as well as the persistent challenges along the India-China border. Environmental concerns, such as recent floods and natural disasters, are also slated for discussion.

The Congress intends to scrutinize Centre-state relations and economic policies, signaling a comprehensive critique of the current government’s performance. Additionally, the party aims to spotlight what it describes as ‘deliberate attempts’ at polarisation in states like Uttar Pradesh through allegedly unconstitutional orders.

This session promises to be a contentious one, as the Congress seeks to hold the government accountable on multiple fronts, from governance lapses to pressing national security issues.
