Assam Police Make Major Drug Seizures in Karbi Anglong and Cachar Districts
On Wednesday, police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district made a significant drug seizure and arrest. Acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a car arriving from Dimapur, Nagaland, at the Khakrajan checkpoint under Borpathar police station. During the search, they discovered 298.58 grams of heroin concealed in 22 soap boxes within a hidden compartment of the vehicle. The individual arrested in connection with this seizure has been identified as Ashikur Rahman.
In a separate operation on July 29, Assam Police conducted a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Cachar district. Acting on reliable intelligence, police intercepted a vehicle in the Islamabad area and seized approximately Rs 12 crore worth of Yaba tablets. The haul included 40,000 tablets, and one person was arrested during the operation.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the state police for their diligence and success in addressing the drug crisis. In a social media post, he highlighted the effectiveness of the operation in Cachar, stating, “Based on credible intelligence, @cacharpolice conducted a special operation in the Islamabad area today, apprehending an individual with 40,000 Yaba tablets.”
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by Assam Police to combat drug trafficking and enhance public safety across the state.
