Assam Boosts Security Amid ULFA-I Threat Before Independence Day

Guwahati, August 11, 2024 — Assam has ramped up security measures across the state in response to a threat from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I). The militant group has issued a warning against participating in Independence Day celebrations on August 15, announcing a state-wide bandh from midnight until 6 PM.

The bandh is anticipated to disrupt most activities, but emergency services, media operations, and religious events are expected to continue without interruption. In preparation, authorities have implemented rigorous security protocols to protect the public and ensure a safe Independence Day observance, despite the ongoing threat from the insurgent group.
