Assam Reports Over 1,100 Cases of JE, Malaria, and Dengue, With 32 Deaths in Two Months
Assam, August 26, 2024 — Assam has faced a severe outbreak of vector-borne diseases, reporting more than 1,100 cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE), malaria, and dengue during June and July this year. The Health and Family Welfare Department has confirmed 32 deaths associated with these illnesses.
- Japanese Encephalitis (JE): The state recorded 424 cases, with 48 in June and 376 in July. JE claimed 29 lives, including one in June and 28 in July.
- Malaria: There were 166 cases in June and 187 in July, resulting in three deaths in June.
- Dengue: The number of cases rose to 80 in June and 214 in July, with no reported deaths.
In response to the outbreak, the Assam Health Department has implemented enhanced control measures, including extensive fogging, larvicidal treatments, and the introduction of larvivorous fish in mosquito breeding sites. The state government is closely monitoring the situation to curb the spread and mitigate further health risks.
